Job summary

Ashdown Group is seeking a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator to own and evolve our SQL Server estate in a hybrid Kingston, Surrey environment. You will drive performance, resilience and security across on-premise and Azure-based platforms, collaborating with agile teams to optimise database design and code.

Qualifications

• At least five years of commercial experience as a SQL Server DBA in 24/7 environments.
• Experience managing SQL Server databases on Azure IaaS and Azure SQL PaaS (Database/Managed Instance).
• Advanced T-SQL skills including query optimisation, execution plans, indexing and storage configuration.
• Experience with ISO 27001 security controls and data retention/regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Own and govern relational database design and data modelling standards across the SQL Server estate.
• Collaborate with agile development teams to review T-SQL, stored procedures and design decisions.
• Proactively monitor workloads, identify bottlenecks and resolve complex issues.
• Take end-to-end ownership for configuration, maintenance, health and performance of the SQL Server estate.
• Administer and optimise workloads across Azure IaaS, Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance.
• Design, implement and maintain high availability and disaster recovery solutions across Azure environments.
• Implement security controls, encryption and auditing to support compliance.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior DBAs.
