Job description

Join Our Team as a Senior Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

Come and join one of the UK’s largest providers of complex care. We proudly employ over 4000+ people – no matter your experience, we have jobs for everyone.

At Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre, we don’t just provide care – we change lives.

Take Andreous, for example – a retired barber, devoted husband, and father – who was recently discharged after months of intensive rehabilitation following a ruptured aneurysm. When he arrived in November 2024, his speech was severely affected, and he faced major challenges with cognition and balance. Thanks to our multidisciplinary team, including our Speech and Language Therapy team, Andreous made incredible strides in his recovery.

Over eight weeks, our Speech and Language Therapists supported Andreous with personalized therapy sessions, helping him regain speech clarity, rebuild confidence, and reconnect with loved ones, which was described as “incredibly meaningful” by his family.

Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Senior Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our skilled and compassionate team. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills while making a significant impact—helping individuals like Andreous rediscover their voice, rebuild confidence, and regain independence.

What You'll Be Working

Our standard working hours are 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. We support work-life balance and are open to discussing flexible working arrangements to suit your needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership, clinical advice, and support to the Speech and Language Therapy team, including support staff and students.
  • Ensure regular clinical supervision, annual appraisals, and personal development plans for qualified staff.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and outcome measurements for patients with complex neurological conditions following brain injuries.
  • Apply clinical reasoning and evidence-based practices to determine appropriate care pathways.
  • Develop and oversee individualized treatment programs and discharge plans, liaising with community services.
  • Manage clinical risks within your caseload and support team risk management.
  • Participate in relevant meetings and audits.
  • Potentially provide cover at our nearby Chislehurst site.
  • Maintain safety and uphold human rights standards.
Qualifications and Experience
  • HCPC registration.
  • Postgraduate dysphagia training.
  • Extensive experience in neurorehabilitation.
  • Ability to manage complex cases independently.
  • Experience supervising junior team members, conducting appraisals, and service development.
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
What We Offer
  • Benefits like free lunch, birthday leave, 25 days plus bank holidays, and access to training and development.
  • Discounts through the Active Reward App and Employee Assistance Programme helpline & app.
  • Salary sacrifice pension scheme, health plans, and recognition programs.
  • Referral bonuses and supportive leadership to help develop your career.
