Senior Specialist Pharmacist - Transplant and Respiratory Medicine

Royal Papworth Hospital is seeking a dynamic pharmacist to lead the pharmaceutical service to our transplant and specialist respiratory patients. This exciting role offers the opportunity to join a well established close team of senior pharmacists, specialist technicians, clinicians and specialist nurses to positively impact patient care.

The pharmacy department sits at the heart of our state-of-the-art, digitally enabled specialist cardio-respiratory hospital. The successful candidate will have a hospital background, ideally with experience in interstitial lung disease or sleep medicine or transplant medicine.

As a department we are committed to supporting flexible working and continuous education. If you are not already an independent prescriber we would be happy to support you to gain the qualification. Our staff are encouraged to attend conferences and networking events, participate in research and enrol on leadership courses.

We are also anticipating the opening of the new Cambridge South train station in early 2026, with excellent railway connections to the East of England and London, providing quick and convenient commuting access to the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Main duties of the job

You will provide expert pharmaceutical care across inpatient, outpatient, and homecare settings, optimising medicines to enhance patient outcomes. Working closely with consultants and clinicians, you'll ensure safe prescribing practices, contribute to policy development, and support the introduction of new medicines.

As a senior member of the team, you'll also play a key role in mentoring and training junior pharmacists and technicians, fostering a culture of professional development and innovation.

Key responsibilities:

*Provide clinical leadership in transplant and respiratory medicine

*Supervise and mentor junior staff

*Line manage a rotational pharmacist or technician

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • M Pharm (or equivalent)
  • Registration with the GPhC
  • Independent prescriber (or willing to work towards)
  • Post graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy practice or equivalent
  • Membership of RPS and/or UKCPA
  • Credentialed at Core Advanced level by RPS or RPS faculty advanced stage 2.
  • Post graduate MSc
Experience
  • Previous experience in providing a specialist pharmacy service on either an interim or permanent basis. Experience in transplantation or specialist thoracic services ideal.
  • Experience of undertaking project and audit work
  • Experience of leadership
  • Experience of supervising, mentoring and teaching
  • Leadership qualification or course attendance
