Job summary

Mastercard Europe is seeking a Senior Specialist within the Controllers group to provide complex accounting guidance across the Europe region, aligning with US GAAP and Mastercard policies. You will work with Regional Finance and pricing teams to ensure accurate revenue and contract accounting.

The role involves liaising with external auditors, coordinating local GAAP reporting with KPMG, and driving process improvements through automation and AI adoption.

Qualifications

• University degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Qualified Accountant preferred.
• Experience in large matrix organizations.
• Experience liaising with external auditors.
• Experience assessing effectiveness and oversight of control implementation.
• Advanced knowledge of Excel; experience with Oracle and Hyperion is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Responds to billing questions and ad hoc analysis requests.
• Coordinate accounting compliance with external provider (KPMG) and local GAAP figures for tax and annual compliance.
• Champion adoption of AI and automation in Controllers processes.

Title and Summary Senior Specialist, Europe Controllers Overview

• The jobholder will be part of the Controller's group within Mastercard Europe's Finance division.
• This position will report to the Manager, Europe Controllers Group.

Role

• Provides complex accounting advice and guidance: discusses, challenges and validates various accounting treatments, and communicates them appropriately to ensure proper understanding and application by Regional Finance teams and other stakeholders
• Influences the contract drafting process to ensure that contract verbiage in customer business agreements enables proper accounting treatment in line with the applicable Mastercard policies and US GAAP as well as optimal operational implementation
• Liaises with Billing Services team and business owners in pricing implementation projects, including review and approval of requirements and test results
• Performs the calculations for manual billing of Pan-European fees and adjustments
• Sets up automatic rebates and customer specific rates in billing system
• Provides guidance and support for creation and updates of rebates calculations models
• Responds to internal and external billing questions and addresses ad hoc requests for billing analysis
• Branches Local Reporting Compliance - Manage the relationship with external provider (KPMG) and coordinate effectively accounting compliance in Europe region; provide accounting information from branches to external compliance offices, review financials and reports, validate information and provide final local GAAP figures to tax team; ensure timely delivery of requested documents and reports to various authorities for the annual compliance exercise.
• Champion the adoption of AI and automation technologies across Controllers processes, driving continuous improvement, enhanced decision-making, stronger governance, and efficiency gains

All About You

• University degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• Qualified Accountant preferred (but not essential for the right candidate).
• Experience working in large matrix organizations
• Experience of liaising with external auditors
• Experience assessing the effectiveness and oversight of operational and financial control implementation
• Results driven, flexible and adaptable; able to work efficiently under pressure and to deadlines
• Able to work through ambiguous concepts and issues to bring clarity to the stakeholders
• Problem solver and a strong team player with an eye for detail and focus on accuracy
• Advanced knowledge of Excel, experience in working with Oracle and Hyperion is a plus
