This is an opportunity for an experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Diagnostics Laboratories team as Senior Specialist Biomedical Scientist, working within accredited Medical Laboratories which provides a full range of clinical and diagnostic services to NHS Tayside, North-East Fife, South Grampian and specialist diagnostics and clinical services across all NHS Scotland Health Boards.
The Diagnostics Laboratories are based in Ninewells Hospital, a large Teaching hospital and Medical School in Dundee, and a multidisciplinary laboratory at Perth Royal Infirmary. The department is a UKAS accredited Medical Laboratory and holds IBMS Training and NES training approval. The laboratories at Ninewells and Perth both operate 24/7 laboratories every day of the year. The post will be based mostly on the Ninewells site with the expectation that the post-holder may work across the Ninewells and Perth site if required. Core working hours will be between 08:30 - 16:30 Monday to Friday however there will also be the requirement to work out with core hours as participation in the out of hours service.
We are looking for an experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist to move into the Haematology Senior BMS post. We are seeking for a member of staff that can demonstrate team spirit, initiative and strong positive leadership. You will be working in a state of the art automated Blood Sciences laboratory with Siemens ADVIA 2120i FBC analysers, ACL TOPS Coagulation analysers, and blood film reporting. The Department provides specialist services such as Diabetic HbA1c measurement and Haemoglobinopathy investigation by capillary electrophoresis, Thrombophilia screening, Coagulation Point of Care/NPT monitoring, and leukaemia diagnosis using Immunophenotyping and cytochemistry.
The post holder will have a considerable degree of autonomy and will be responsible for delivering professional, scientific and quality leadership. The postholder will work as part of the Diagnostics Laboratories Team and work closely with Clinical and Governance Leads, Service Managers, other Senior Biomedical Scientists, Training team, Quality Managers and Health and Safety Officer.
To be considered for this position, you must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, have previous experience as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, proven leadership skills and ideally working experience at a senior level within some or all of the laboratory disciplines of Haematology, Biochemistry and Blood Transfusion. You must also hold or be in the later stages (within 12 months) of completion of an MSc or equivalent.
