Job summary

MDA Space is seeking a Senior Hardware Design Engineer to join its UK team, delivering FPGA/ASIC based satellite payloads for space missions. You will lead hardware development across complex, high-rel hardware programs, including PCBs, power, RF and radiation considerations.

Hybrid work options are available. Ideal candidates bring 10+ years in space or high-reliability hardware, expertise in HDI PCB design, high-speed interfaces, and scripting skills.

Qualifications

• 10+ years’ hardware design experience in space or high-reliability sectors.
• Experience with complex circuits and 10+ layer HDI PCBs for high-reliability applications.
• Proficient in circuit and PCB design and simulation tools.
• Knowledge of power supply design and layout techniques.
• Knowledge of high-speed digital design and SerDes interconnects.
• Specialist knowledge in LEO/GEO payloads, high reliability design, RF design, radiation effects & mitigation, DC/DC design.
• Scripting with Tcl/Python/Perl is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop FPGA/ASIC based satellite telecommunication payloads for various orbits.
• Manage hardware development and manufacturing activities.
• Own hardware product development lifecycle from specification to testing.
• Circuit design including schematic capture, component selection and simulation.
• Perform derating, worst case, reliability, radiation, EMI/EMC analyses and power budgeting.
• Support hardware/software/system integration, test, qualification.
• Direct in-house and 3rd-party PCB layout teams; deliver manufacturing-ready packages.
• Contribute to team leadership.
