Base pay range

Job Title: Senior Software Test Engineer

Location: Cowes, Isle of Wight (onsite only)

Salary: Up to £60,000 (dependent on skills and experience)

About the Role

Our client is looking for a Senior Software Test Engineer to lead testing and validation efforts for high-integrity software systems. This is a hands-on and strategic role, focused on managing automated and manual testing, reporting, configuration control, and full lifecycle quality assurance. You'll be part of a team delivering long-term software enhancements and support for advanced defence technology systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the creation and execution of automated and manual software tests
• Oversee the generation of Software Functional Proving Builds, ensuring configuration control of code and data components
• Lead Verification & Validation activities for functional proving builds
• Produce and manage Software Test Plans (STPs) and Software Test Reports (STRs)
• Maintain the Verification Cross Reference Index (VCRI) to demonstrate requirement coverage and compliance

Required Skills and Experience

• Degree (BEng/BSc) in Computer Science or a related STEM field
• Strong experience with at least one high-level programming language (experience with Ada is desirable)
• Familiarity with UML or other high-level design methodologies
• Proven experience across all phases of the software development lifecycle
• Knowledge of software lifecycle models (e.g., Waterfall, Agile)
• Sound understanding of configuration management and related tools
• Good working knowledge of industry software standards (e.g. ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207)

About the Team

You’ll be joining a 30-person Radar Software team, responsible for delivering capability upgrades and long-term support to Royal Navy platforms. This position offers the opportunity to grow your expertise in software test leadership within a secure, collaborative environment, with clear pathways into senior positions across the wider organisation.
