Job summary

Unity is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Web Platform to own areas of the Web runtime from design to release. You will optimize Web builds, reduce download sizes, and improve startup performance while solving cross-language, low-level challenges in C++, C#, and JavaScript.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and mentor peers to uphold high code quality. You will contribute to advancing the Web platform and ensuring Unity's Web capabilities stay cutting-edge across

Qualifications

• Deep hands-on proficiency with C++ in performance-sensitive code.
• Experience with WebAssembly, using Emscripten and/or LLVM.
• Ability to decompose complex technical problems and act on your own judgment.
• Experience profiling, debugging and optimizing across native and browser boundary.
• Working knowledge of C# and JavaScript.
• Effective written/verbal communication with peers, managers and other teams.
• Proven track record of mentoring engineers and raising code quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Own meaningful areas of the Unity Web runtime from design through release.
• Research, design and implement optimizations to the Web build target, e.g. stripping unused code and progressive asset loading.
• Improve download size, load and startup performance for Web builds with measurable targets.
• Solve low-level problems across C++, C#, and JavaScript, including multi-threading enhancements.

The opportunity

We are hiring for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Web Platform team here at Unity. Unity's Web platform lets games and real-time 3D content run in a browser, on any internet connected device. Browser capability has moved fast, browser gaming is going through a revival, and the Unity Web runtime is what makes it possible. Our work also supports an exciting new partnership with a major platform, which puts what this team builds in front of audiences at a scale few browser platforms reach.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Own meaningful areas of the Unity Web runtime, from design through to release


• Research, design and implement optimizations to the Web build target, such as stripping unused code from builds and progressively loading assets as a game needs them


• Improve download size, load and startup performance for Web builds, and set measurable targets for it


• Solve uncommon, low-level problems across C++, C# and JavaScript, for example bringing multi-threading to parts of the runtime that are single-threaded today


• Partner with teams across Unity who build on the Web platform, translating what they need into platform work


• Mentor teammates and help set the bar for code quality across the team


• Keep Unity at the frontier of the Web's constantly evolving capabilities

What We’re Looking For

• Deep, hands-on proficiency with C++ in performance sensitive code

• Experience contributing to a browser engine or browser runtime


• Deeper domain knowledge of rendering, physics or audio in a real-time 3D engine

Base Salary Range: We determine the base salary range for this role based on your primary work location:

Zone A: £55,700 - £83,500 GBP gross

Zone B: £63,700 - £95,500 GBP gross

Finland

Base Salary Range: We determine the base salary range for this role based on your primary work location:

Zone A: €62,700 - €94,100 EUR gross

Lithuania

Base Salary Range: We determine the base salary range for this role based on your primary work location:

Zone A: €54,200 - €81,400 EUR gross

This range reflects the anticipated base salary for this position. Beyond base salary, this role may be eligible for equity awards and participation in our company incentive plans (such as annual discretionary bonuses or sales commissions). The final offer amount will depend on several factors, including geographic location and the candidate’s relevant experience, professional background, and skill set.
