Job description

Senior Embedded Software Developer

The opportunity Make Unity run everywhere! That is the mantra of the Embedded OS Platforms team. Users expect stunning interactive experiences everywhere: from in-car infotainment systems and digital cockpits to touch-screen kiosks in showrooms and at sporting events. Unity is at the forefront with our scalable, performant runtime engine and Unity Editor workflow. We are looking for a senior software engineer to join our growing team. The team builds and supports the Unity versions that run on Embedded platforms, like Embedded Linux, QNX and Android Automotive OS. As UX evolves to include multiple screens, layering of 3D content with other applications and rich multi-touch input, our platform grows to match expectations. Unity is committed to solving the hardest technical challenges, and this role plays a key part in delivering industry solutions for our customers. You will work with teams across Unity, including industry teams who work directly with customers and R&D teams responsible for cross-platform support, systems architecture, libraries, as well as runtime optimization.

What success looks like

In your first 3‑6 months, you’ve ramped up on one of our embedded platforms, shipped your first integrations and bug fixes, and become a trusted contributor in customer‑facing investigations. Within 12 months, you own a meaningful area of a platform (e.g. AAOS integration) its performance on constrained embedded SoCs and act as a technical point of contact for one of our customers. You guide team wide initiatives with your experience and expertise.

Your impact

You’ll be part of a small, senior team with a strong impact. The code you write ships in production vehicles, and your work directly unblocks Unity’s embedded and automotive business. You’ll help define the technical bar across the team and shape how Unity supports the next generation of software‑defined vehicles.

Why you’ll love it

Genuinely hard problems at the frontier of Real Time 3D and embedded systems. Contribution to cutting edge automotive HMI experiences. A diverse range of responsibilities spanning feature work and customer support. Real ownership, agency and opportunities to grow in a small and senior team that turns the needle and moves the industry forward.

What you’ll be doing

Bring Unity’s Real Time 3D runtime to embedded platforms, like Embedded Linux, QNX and Android Automotive OS, developing new features and integrations that address the needs of industries like the automotive HMI market. Integrate Unity into native Android apps (e.g. via Unity Render Service) and build the graphics and windowing layer that powers multi‑screen, multi‑touch digital cockpits and HMIs. Profile and optimize KPI like runtime performance, memory, startup/load time and iteration speed of Unity for resource‑constrained embedded SoCs across platforms. Partner directly with customers like automotive OEMs as a technical point of contact, investigating issues, removing performance bottlenecks, and setting customers up for production success. Raise the engineering bar for a small and senior team through design discussions, code reviews, and automated testing.

What we’re looking for

Languages: Proficiency in C/C++/C\# and building scalable feature sets in a large multithreaded codebase. Embedded Platforms: Experience developing for Embedded Linux, QNX and hypervised environments. Android platform: Hands‑on AAOS or AOSP development experience on the platform layer, experience integrating into the Android lifecycle as well as using the Android compositing stack (SurfaceFlinger, HWComposer, Gralloc, EGL). Graphics Engineering: Experience developing against Vulkan and OpenGL ES applied to Real Time 3D and UI rendering. Performance optimization: Profiling and optimization on resource‑constrained hardware using CPU/GPU/IO tooling. Customer collaboration: Working directly with customers on technical issues, with business‑level English. Team influence: Become an established senior engineer who guides the team on large cross‑platform initiatives. You might also have Experience working with or developing Real Time 3D game engines (Unity, Unreal, Godot). Hands‑on game development experience. Experience developing for embedded and automotive SoC (Qualcomm SA8295/SA8775P, NXP i.MX8/i.MX95, NVIDIA Jetson/DRIVE Orin). Experience working on automotive HMI (cluster, infotainment, ADAS, map navigation).
