Job summary

Elsevier is hiring a Software Engineer for the NPRE team, based in Oxford or London. You will design, develop, and deploy cloud-hosted applications, collaborating with researchers, editors and developers across the peer review journey.

We value experience with Java/Spring Boot, JavaScript/TypeScript, Docker, Kubernetes and AWS, plus CI/CD, Agile practices and mentoring. Flexible hours and location-specific benefits are provided.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Java/Spring Boot, JavaScript/TypeScript and SQL.
  • Experience with build tools, Git and CI/CD.
  • Mentoring and knowledge sharing within teams.
  • Experience with alerting, monitoring and logging tools.
  • Familiar with refactoring tools and IDEs.
  • Experience with TDD, mocking libraries and Agile practices.
  • Cloud experience with Docker, Kubernetes and AWS.
  • Interest in AI coding tools and AI-based solutions.
  • Awareness of industry best practices and standards.
  • Collaborative mindset and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

Job description

Salary: £65,000 - 105,000 per year

Requirements:
  • Were looking for proficiency in some of these technologies, with a willingness to learn the others: JavaScript/TypeScript, frontend frameworks, Java/Spring Boot, and SQL.
  • You have some experience with build tools, Git, and continuous integration.
  • You have experience supporting and mentoring team members to share knowledge and build their skills.
  • You have experience with alerting, monitoring, and logging tools.
  • You have experience with a modern IDE and proficiency using refactoring tools.
  • You have experience with test-driven development and mocking libraries.You have real-world experience with Agile practices and execution.
  • You have experience designing and developing for cloud environments, such as Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS.
  • You are familiar with AI coding tools and are interested in learning about or have experience with AI-based solutions.
  • Experience with agentic software development is desired.
  • You are aware of industry best practices and standards.
  • You enjoy collaborating with team members, discussing and refining approaches, and learning and growing your skills.
