Job summary

NATS is the UK's leading air navigation service provider, delivering software development and maintenance across critical systems. You will manage and deliver work packages, contribute to design, and guide junior engineers within a team led by Software Engineering Manager.

The role requires strong knowledge of C++, Unix/Linux, and modern development practices, with agile working and potential remote options across the UK.

Qualifications

• HNC (or equivalent) in computing, engineering, technology or numerate discipline.
• Alternative: structured engineering/software development training with demonstrable skills.
• Knowledge of system and software development; C++ and UNIX/Linux desirable.
• Alternative: JavaScript/TypeScript for backend with React frontend experience.
• Experience in work package management and customer/supplier negotiations.
• SFIA 9 Programming/software development level 4 alignment.

Responsibilities

• Analysis design and implementation of changes to software components, in accordance with customer requirements, budget and schedule.
• Management of work packages involving development and delivery of software per performance, quality, budget and schedule.
• 3rd and 4th line support for NATS software systems to ensure high utilisation.
• Contribute to proposals with requirements capture, risk analysis, prototyping, and Feasibility & Options reports.
• Supervision and guidance of engineers assigned to the work packages.
• Production and maintenance of lifecycle documentation including assurance documentation for high assurance software.
• Provide expertise in the rapidly changing field of commercial software used by NATS systems.
• Ensure processes and tools in development are efficient and effective.
