Job summary

Oxford Instruments Plasma Technology is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for our Severn Beach, Bristol facility to design and develop software for advanced scientific equipment used in research and manufacturing.

You will lead complex projects, mentor engineers, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while ensuring quality, security, and on-time delivery. The role offers hybrid working and a competitive package.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience building commercial software products.
• Proficiency in C#, C++ or C.
• Experience leading complex technical work and directing direction.
• Experience with Windows-based apps and real-time control systems.
• Strong communication and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
• Degree in Computing, Physics or related field.
• Advantageous: industrial automation or semiconductor equipment.
• Advantageous: hardware interfacing and control systems.
• Advantageous: cybersecurity and secure SDLC.
• Advantageous: AI/ML or modern DevOps practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead software design and development for products and systems.
• Own complex projects from concept through delivery.
• Develop high-quality software using C#, C++ and C.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Service, Product Management and Operations.
• Support customers and field engineers in troubleshooting issues.
• Mentor software engineers and establish team best practices.
• Review designs and code for quality, maintainability and security.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and platform evolution.
• Provide technical leadership across the software lifecycle.
• Act as a key technical authority while remaining hands-on.
