Job summary

Octopus Energy is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join our new AI team and shape a safe, scalable AI capability from the ground up. You will build central developer tools, collaborate with business units, and drive production-quality AI features within domain codebases.

You will bring deep Python/Django experience, strong system design, and a passion for DX, with mentoring duties and cross-functional coordination across Software Engineering, Operations, Services, and Finance.

Qualifications

• Backend engineering with Python/Django and system design knowledge.
• Interest in Developer Experience (DX) and reliable, scalable systems.
• Familiar with modern AI toolchains, LLMs, retrieval patterns, rapid prototyping.
• Ability to audit AI-generated code and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• Strong stakeholder management and collaborative coaching or mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Embed within cross-functional teams to co-build high-impact AI features inside domain codebases.
• Design and build internal developer tools, templates, and production gates in Python.
• Establish guardrails and security standards for scalable AI production.
• Engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders to map problems and design AI-augmented workflows.
• Collaborate with Data team to ensure secure data flows into AI tools.
• Provide hands-on pairing, mentorship, and guidance during embedded rotations.
• Incorporate real-world deployment insights into prototyping tools and frameworks.
