Job summary

Hiscox AG in York or London is seeking a senior software engineer to design, develop, and review high-quality code in C# and .NET, with a focus on scalable, secure cloud solutions.

You will work in a collaborative squad, mentor peers on SOLID design, CI/CD practices, and modern front-end tech such as Blazor/Angular/React, while advancing Azure-based architectures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field, or 5+ years in a Software Engineering role with increasing responsibility.
• Strong, hands‑on experience in C# and .NET, including design, development, and unit testing.
• Strong background in SQL with production experience designing, optimizing, and maintaining databases.
• Solid experience with CI/CD pipelines and source control, with ability to influence team practices.
• Experience with Azure technologies (Functions, SQL, Storage, APIM, Service Bus) for event-driven architectures.
• Familiarity with modern front-end tech (Blazor, Angular, or React) is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Lead technically to shape and deliver business outcomes with the squad and stakeholders.
• Write and review clean, maintainable code and promote best practices (SOLID, design patterns, unit testing, peer reviews, CI/CD).
• Ensure documentation is accurate and up to date; mentor on technical clarity and story documentation.
• Mentor and support team members, fostering continuous learning.
• Guide solution design with stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable implementations.
• Collaborate with engineers across teams to evolve architecture and promote best practices.

Requirements:

• We require an academic degree in a related field, or 5+ years of employment in a Software Engineering role, with increasing responsibility in delivery and technical decision-making.
• We require strong, hands‑on experience in C# and .NET, including the ability to design, develop, and review high-quality code and write effective unit tests.
• We require a strong background in SQL, with proven experience in designing, optimising, and maintaining databases in production environments.
• We require solid experience with CI/CD pipelines and a strong understanding of source control systems and branching strategies, with the ability to influence and improve team practices.
• Experience with Azure technologies such as Azure Functions, Azure SQL, Azure Storage, Azure API Management (APIM), and Azure Service Bus is required, especially for event-driven or messaging‑based architectures.
• Familiarity with modern front‑end technologies such as Blazor, Angular, or React is beneficial, with the ability to contribute to or guide responsive user interfaces.
