Job summary

Searchability is seeking a hands-on Senior Software Developer to join a small in-house team supporting a bespoke, business-critical SQL Server-based system with a Microsoft Access front end. You'll learn the platform from its builders and help shape its evolution in the next phase of the business.

The role is hybrid, with 2-3 days on-site in Chesterfield, and offers £55,000–£65,000 depending on experience, reflecting a senior position within an established, growing organisation.

Qualifications

• Strong experience with SQL Server and T-SQL in a business-critical environment.
• Proficient with Microsoft Access and VBA.
• Ability to navigate a large, complex existing codebase and contribute to modernization.

Responsibilities

• Develop, support and enhance a complex SQL Server-backed system with a Microsoft Access front end.
• Write and optimise T-SQL, including stored procedures, views and queries.
• Maintain and extend Access/VBA code across a large existing codebase.
• Build a deep understanding of the system, working closely with the Head of Systems and the wider team.
• Contribute ideas on how the platform should be modernised over time.
• Bring good development practice to the team, such as source control, documentation and testing.

THE SENIOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPER ROLE

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

• Experience with other languages or platforms (e.g. C#/.NET, Python) would be a strong advantage
