Job summary

South Gloucestershire Council is seeking a Senior Social Worker for the Family Help service in Yate. You will lead complex cases, practice relationship-based social work, and support children, young people and families to achieve positive outcomes.

You will coordinate statutory support, supervise staff, and contribute to team development, policy, and performance while maintaining high standards of service delivery.

Qualifications

• Registered social worker with current SW England registration and post-qualifying award.
• Extensive post-qualification experience in children's services and risk-based decision making.
• Ability to supervise staff, mentor others and provide practice guidance.

Responsibilities

• Hold complex cases across CIN, CP and early care, including assessment, planning, intervention and review.
• Make timely, robust decisions balancing safety, rights and statutory duties.
• Facilitate multi-agency coordination and strengthen family networks.
• Provide oversight, supervision and mentoring to less experienced social workers and students.
• Lead group learning and contribute to service development and performance improvement.
• Potentially manage a small number of alternatively qualified practitioners and support the Team Manager.
