Job summary

South Gloucestershire Council is seeking an Advanced Social Worker – Family Help Lead Practitioner to join the West Family Help Hub in Patchway. You will lead relationship-based social work with children, young people and families across safeguarding services, ensuring strong practice and positive outcomes.

You will mentor colleagues, contribute to practice development, and coordinate complex assessments and plans with partners to support vulnerable families.

Qualifications

• Hold a recognised social work qualification and current registration with Social Work England.
• Significant post-qualification experience within a local authority children's services setting.
• Detailed knowledge of children’s legislation, with strong assessment and risk-management skills.
• Ability to mentor and support colleagues, sharing professional knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead family help work across Child in Need, Child Protection and early Children in Care.
• Complete high-quality assessments, planning, intervention and review.
• Coordinate multi-agency plans and meetings to secure positive outcomes.
• Provide mentoring and practice support to colleagues and students.
• Maintain accurate records and contribute to team learning.
