About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to develop your career in social work at City of Wolverhampton Council. We take pride in our work and offer our employees excellent training, progression pathways, all with a highly competitive salary.

The Power2 Service is a multi-disciplinary, multi-agency partnership between Children’s Social Care, Adult Social Care, Public Health and the Voluntary Sector, created in September 2019. Power2 won the prestigious MJ Award in 2022 for Innovation in Children's and Adults for its work with vulnerable children and young adults aged 10-25 at risk of exploitation; and those displaying high risk behaviours which impact on their home and education stability. The team focuses on working with children/young adults and their family/carer networks who have experienced trauma and been impacted by cumulative harm by using a range of trauma-informed approaches. Each team member has their own specialisms and expertise and has been trained in specialist frameworks such as Attachment Theory; Developmental and Relational Trauma; and Attachment, Regulation and Competency.

We are looking to recruit an experienced, skilled, and creative Senior Social Worker to continue the Power2 journey and build on its success. The team currently comprises a Senior Social Worker, Children and Adults Social Worker, Adult Social Care Worker, Educational Psychologist, Drama Therapist, and keyworkers from Barnardo’s, St Giles Trust, and Gazebo Theatre.

The post holder will:
  • Be a qualified social worker, with significant post-qualifying experience working with children and young adults at risk of exploitation, demonstrating the ability to co-work and oversee risk and vulnerability management.
  • Show understanding and commitment to trauma-informed practice and act as a champion within the service for restorative/relational best practice.
  • Have managerial and supervisory experience working with staff managing complex and challenging children and young adults, providing direct supervision and practice support.
  • Support the team and team manager in the coordination and performance of Power2 according to operational and quality assurance frameworks.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills with a proven track record of motivating and building effective teams to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Ensure the delivery of a high-quality social work service to meet the needs of children and families, safeguarding children within statutory guidelines.
  • Represent the service in multi-agency forums and contribute to policy and practice development in Children’s Services across the city.
  • Ensure the social work service is fully integrated within wider Children's Services to promote positive outcomes for children and families.
We offer:
  • A career development pathway and extensive training. Over 85% of our workforce are satisfied with our learning and development offerings, and 90% perceive a positive learning culture.
  • Reimbursement of Blue Light card membership costs and Social Work England renewal fees.
  • Active employee networks and four staff equality forums (Race, Religion and Belief; Disability and Age; Gender, Maternity and Paternity; LGBT+).
  • A strengths-based practice framework supporting relationship-building and long-lasting solutions using the Three Conversations approach.
  • A commitment to eliminating discrimination and supporting employee wellbeing, including an employee assistance scheme and wellbeing resources.
  • Flexible working arrangements, including some home working.
  • Discounts and savings through our rewards portal.
