Job summary

Elsevier is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to ensure reliability, scalability and performance of critical platforms. You will lead automation efforts, drive resilience, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional customer experiences.

You will design observability, incident response, and deployment strategies, while ensuring high code quality and smooth handover after squads move on. This is a chance to impact global information and analytics leadership.

Qualifications

• Advanced Terraform: modules, providers, state management, lifecycle controls, drift detection, safe refactoring, and remote state (S3, locking, cross-stack dependencies).
• AWS Operations: production multi-account, multi-region environments across ECS, RDS, ALB, VPC, IAM, Route53, ECR, S3, Lambda, DynamoDB, SQS, Secrets Manager, KMS, CloudWatch.
• GitHub Actions CI/CD: reusable workflows, OIDC authentication, approval gates, runners, Terraform deployments, application deployments, and migration pipelines.
• ECS Fargate & Containers: Docker, ECR, ECS task definitions/services, IAM roles, health checks, autoscaling, ALB integration, and deployment rollbacks.
• AWS Networking & Security: VPCs, networking, ALBs, Route53, ACM/TLS, IAM, OIDC, Secrets Manager, KMS, cloud security best practices.
• Incident Response & Observability: troubleshooting with logs, metrics, alarms, RCA, rollback decisions, and runbooks.
• Linux & Automation: Bash/Python scripting for AWS CLI automation, CI/CD, and operational tooling.
• AI Tooling Deployment: deploying and operating AI services in production with monitoring, reliability, and security considerations.
• Developer Enablement: supporting multiple teams, troubleshooting across layers, documenting solutions, and enabling self-service.

Responsibilities

• Creates monitoring queries and establishes service level baselines.
• Supports senior engineers during incidents.
• Contributes to post-mortems and RCAs.
• Participates in disaster recovery tests.
• Implements automation and executes code in production environments.
• Contributes to SRE knowledge documentation.
• Supports deployment, monitoring, and reliability of services integrating AI tools.
• Can carry out architecture support for infrastructure topology drawings and deployment workflows.
• Benchmarks and documents test performance results to support production readiness reviews.
• Advises on SDLC and CI/CD process improvements.
