Job summary

Metlen Energy & Metals in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior Site Engineer - Civil to lead civil construction on large solar PV and BESS projects, including earthworks, drainage, foundations and concrete works.

You will provide technical oversight of subcontractors, review drawings and method statements, supervise formwork, reinforcement, testing, QA/QC/ITP activities, and ensure compliance with RAMS and UK HSE standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years civil site engineering or construction experience.
• Senior Site Engineer/Lead Site Engineer or equivalent role.
• Strong knowledge of earthworks, drainage, trenching, foundations, concrete works, compaction, testing.
• Experience with subcontractor management, QA/QC, ITPs, site documentation, and quality standards.
• Knowledge of Temporary Works, RAMS, excavation safety, and UK HSE requirements.
• Understanding of planning, progress monitoring, and project controls.
• Leadership, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and take ownership on site.
• Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with PM software is a plus.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel between sites.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical oversight of subcontractor works, ensuring compliance with drawings, specs, tolerances and approved methodologies.
• Review and interpret civil drawings, surveys, specifications, method statements and technical docs.
• Oversee concrete works: formwork, reinforcement, placement, curing, testing and inspections.
• Coordinate civil interfaces with electrical, mechanical and commissioning teams.
• Lead QA/QC inspections, ITP activities, testing, snagging and close-out.
• Monitor subcontractor productivity, daily progress, plant utilisation, and installed quantities against programme.
• Identify delays, risks, weather impacts and resource constraints; support mitigation and recovery.
• Maintain accurate site records: inspections, measurements, progress reports, as-built docs.

Ensure compliance with HSE requirements, RAMS, excavation safety, lifting operations, temporary works, reinstatement, and handover requirements. Act as a key civil engineering point of contact for the Project and Construction Management teams, subcontractors, consultants, and other stakeholders.

What you bring to the role:

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of civil site engineering or construction experience, ideally within renewable energy, infrastructure, or large-scale construction projects.
• Previous experience in a Senior Site Engineer, Lead Site Engineer, or equivalent role.
• Strong technical knowledge of earthworks, drainage, trenching, foundations, concrete works, compaction, and testing procedures.
• Solid experience with subcontractor management, QA/QC, ITPs, site documentation, and construction quality standards.
• Strong understanding of Temporary Works, RAMS, excavation safety, and UK construction HSE requirements.
• Good understanding of construction planning, progress monitoring, and project controls.
• Strong leadership, communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and take ownership of civil engineering matters in a fast-paced site environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; familiarity with construction/project management software is an advantage.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across project sites.
