Job summary

DTGen is seeking a Senior Service Engineer to power our critical services across the UK. You will diagnose and repair diesel generator systems, carry out servicing, and lead engineering teams while mentoring junior colleagues.

The role requires hands-on electrical/mechanical expertise, strong communication with customers, and the ability to manage projects across site visits, with occasional travel and overnight stays. You will uphold safety and quality standards across all work.

Qualifications

• Recognised electrical or mechanical qualification or apprenticeship.
• Experience maintaining, servicing and repairing diesel generator systems.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across electrical and mechanical disciplines.
• Ability to use specialist diagnostic equipment and tooling.

Responsibilities

• Carry out fault finding and diagnostics on diesel generator sets.

How you'll power our business as a Senior Service Engineer

As a Senior Service Engineer, you'll play a vital role in supporting our customers across a wide range of sectors by carrying out fault finding, diagnostics, servicing, maintenance and repairs on diesel generator systems. This is a hands‑on role that combines technical expertise, customer engagement and team leadership, giving you the opportunity to mentor engineers while working on critical power equipment across the UK.

What You'll Be Doing

• Carrying out fault finding and diagnostics on diesel generator sets.
• Diagnosing and resolving electrical and mechanical engine faults.
• Replacing electrical and mechanical components.
• Delivering planned servicing and preventative maintenance activities.
• Leading multi-engineer projects and ensuring work is completed to the highest standards, within agreed timescales.
• Mentoring junior engineers and apprentices while promoting engineering best practice.
• Carrying out remedial repairs and load bank testing.
• Performing control panel upgrades and modifications.
• Responding to breakdowns and providing emergency repair support.
• Conducting site surveys and technical assessments as required.
• Communicating effectively with customers, OEMs and DTGen service and parts teams.
• Completing detailed service reports, timesheets and maintenance documentation.
• Managing van stock levels and ensuring tools and equipment remain calibrated and compliant.
• Participating in the company on-call rota.
• Supporting health, safety, environmental and quality standards across all activities.
• Working across customer sites throughout the UK, with occasional travel and overnight stays where required.

What we’ll need from you

• Recognised electrical or mechanical qualification or apprenticeship.
• Experience maintaining, servicing and repairing diesel generator systems.
• Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across electrical and mechanical disciplines.
• Ability to use specialist diagnostic equipment and tooling.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
• ECS or CSCS Card.
• DBS or Disclosure Scotland clearance (or willingness to obtain).
• Working at Height certification.
• Manual Handling training.
• Asbestos Awareness training.
