Job summary

Syntech Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Service Engineer in Washington, Tyne & Wear, covering the North East region to service, maintain and repair diesel generators and related equipment. You will work from the Washington depot and at customer sites, perform diagnostics, preventative maintenance, PDIs, and liaise with customers, with an on-call rota and overtime benefits.

The package includes a salary up to £38,000, overtime opportunities, on-call allowance and a company vehicle, plus ongoing

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Plant Maintenance or related discipline.
• Experience servicing diesel generators, plant hire or power generation sectors.
• Valid UK driving licence for a minimum of 3 years.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned servicing and repairs on diesel generators and equipment.
• Attend customer sites to diagnose electrical and mechanical faults.
• Fault-find on AC/DC systems, control panels and generator controls.
• Complete inspections, PDIs and equipment testing.
• Maintain service records and job sheets accurately.
• Provide technical updates to customers and liaise professionally.
• Maintain company vehicle standards and report defects.
• Participate in out-of-hours rota, including weekends/bank holidays.
• Ensure work complies with Health & Safety regulations.
• Support depot operations and equipment preparation when required.

Service Engineer

Location: Washington, Tyne & Wear (Covering North East Region)

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Generator Service Engineer to join a well-established and growing organisation within the power generation and plant hire sector.

Working both from the Washington depot and at customer sites across the region, you will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing a range of diesel generators and associated equipment. This is a varied, hands-on role offering excellent technical exposure, autonomy and career development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned servicing, preventative maintenance and repairs on diesel generators and associated equipment.
• Attend customer sites to diagnose and rectify electrical and mechanical faults.
• Perform fault finding on AC/DC electrical systems, control panels and generator control systems.
• Complete inspections, pre-delivery inspections (PDIs) and equipment testing.
• Ensure all service documentation, maintenance records and job sheets are completed accurately.
• Liaise professionally with customers, providing technical advice and updates where required.
• Maintain company vehicle standards and complete daily vehicle defect reports.
• Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota, including weekends and Bank Holidays.
• Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with company procedures and Health & Safety regulations.
• Support depot operations and assist with equipment preparation when required.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Plant Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Previous experience working within the generator, plant hire, power generation or heavy equipment sectors.
• Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding abilities.
• Experience working on diesel engines, generators, plant machinery or related equipment.
• Ability to prioritise workloads and manage service schedules effectively.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
• Full UK Driving Licence (held for a minimum of 3 years).

Desirable Experience

• Forklift Truck (FLT) licence.
• Experience with generator control systems and load testing.
• Previous field service engineering experience.
