Job summary

Devon County Council in Devon is seeking a Designated Social Care Officer for SEND to lead strategic social care responsibilities across SEND, working with children, families and partners in education and health.

The role combines policy development, performance oversight and staff leadership, with opportunity to influence system-wide improvements and to help deliver integrated, child-centred services.

Qualifications

• Qualified social worker registered with Social Work England.
• Experience managing statutory social work services.
• Strong knowledge of SEND legislation and guidance.
• Proven ability to lead multi-agency partnerships.
• Commitment to child- and family-centred practice.

Responsibilities

• Lead the social care element of Devon's SEND Strategy across policy and practice.
• Assure social care duties under SEND legislation and guidance.
• Act as principal social care advisor on SEND to senior leaders.
• Strengthen partnerships with education, health and the sector.
• Oversee practice quality, performance measures and improvements.
• Support co-production with children, families and carers.
• Develop the social care Local Offer using data to inform commissioning.
• Build workforce capability through leadership, advice and development.
• Provide line management for up to four staff with SEND duties.
