Job summary

Leeds City Council is seeking a SEN Casework Officer to manage complex SEND caseloads, lead EHC assessments and reviews, and collaborate with families, schools and multi‑agency partners. The role includes a leadership function within the SENSAP team, providing guidance and supervision to colleagues while ensuring timely statutory duties and high-quality, child‑centred practice.

Qualifications

• Experience of SEND casework or working with children, young people or families.
• Capability to provide guidance, challenge and support to colleagues.
• Knowledge of SEND legislation and statutory framework.
• Strong analytical skills to interpret reports and make sound decisions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Child-centred, inclusive approach to practice.

Responsibilities

• Manage a complex caseload of SEND, leading on EHC needs assessments, plans and reviews.
• Coordinate multi-agency contributions to assessment and planning.
• Provide day-to-day guidance and line management within the team.
• Work with families, schools and partner agencies to resolve issues and negotiate placements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and development of processes.
• Ensure statutory duties are delivered timely and compliant.
