Rapid decarbonisation, evolving market frameworks, emerging technologies and increasing system complexity are fundamentally changing how security of supply risks emerge and how they must be understood. The EMR Modelling Team sits at the heart of Great Britain's electricity security of supply framework. Our analysis underpins the Capacity Market, the principal mechanism used to deliver security of supply in Great Britain today. As the energy system evolves, however, security of supply is increasingly shaped by decisions taken across a much broader policy and market landscape. Developments in electricity market design, flexibility, storage, interconnection and wider energy policy can all materially influence adequacy outcomes. To strengthen the connection between these developments and our analytical work, we are creating a new Senior Policy Analyst role within the EMR Modelling Team. Grounded in security of supply and Capacity Market policy, you will help identify where policy and market reforms could create new adequacy risks or opportunities, ensuring these considerations are reflected in both policy development and the future direction of our modelling. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the interface between modelling, markets and policy, helping shape both the future of the Capacity Market and how Great Britain assesses and manages security of supply risks. This role can be based from Wokingham, Warwick, Glasgow, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.**Key Accountabilities*** **Act as the EMR Modelling Team's lead advisor on Capacity Market and security of supply policy,** ensuring analytical evidence and policy development remain closely aligned as the electricity system evolves.* **Identify and assess the security of supply implications of policy, regulatory and market developments** across the wider electricity sector, recognising where risks, opportunities or unintended consequences for adequacy may emerge.* **Strengthen the connection between modelling and policy,** translating complex analytical insights into clear policy messages whilst ensuring emerging policy developments are reflected in future modelling priorities and methodologies.* **Provide expert analysis and advice on Capacity Market design, de-rating methodologies and wider security of supply frameworks**, helping shape NESO's position on nationally significant policy issues.* **Lead the development of evidence-based responses to consultations, policy proposals and market reforms,** drawing upon the team's expertise in adequacy assessment, probabilistic modelling and electricity market analysis.* **Build trusted relationships across Government, regulators and industry**, representing NESO's security of supply expertise and influencing discussions on future market and policy developments.* **Identify emerging trends and strategic risks that could influence future adequacy outcomes,** ensuring the team remains at the forefront of security of supply assessment and Capacity Market reform.* **Enhance the capability of the EMR Modelling Team by bringing policy insight into a specialist analytical environment,** helping ensure our frameworks, assumptions and areas of focus remain relevant to a rapidly changing energy system. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK by the start of employment. Visa sponsorship may not be available for this role and will be considered in line with business requirements.**About You**You are passionate about electricity security of supply and have a strong understanding of how policy, markets and analytical evidence interact to shape energy system outcomes. You will combine a solid understanding of Capacity Market and electricity market policy with the ability to engage confidently with complex analytical and modelling concepts. You may come from a policy, regulatory, consulting, market analysis or analytical background, but you will be comfortable working in a highly technical environment and translating between policy and evidence. You will bring:* Significant experience within the energy sector, typically 3+ years, with strong knowledge of electricity market policy, regulation and market design.* A good understanding of the Capacity Market and the role it plays in delivering security of supply in Great Britain.* An interest in, and ability to understand, complex analytical and modelling methodologies used to assess adequacy and security of supply risks.* Strong awareness of wider electricity market developments, including areas such as flexibility, storage, interconnection, renewable generation and market reform.* The ability to identify risks, opportunities and unintended consequences arising from policy and regulatory change.* Excellent written communication skills, with experience producing clear, evidence-based advice, consultation responses, briefings or policy recommendations.* Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across technical, policy and regulatory communities.* A curious and questioning mindset, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and explore complex problems from multiple perspectives.* A collaborative approach and a desire to work as part of a specialist team helping shape the future of security of supply assessment in Great Britain.**What You'll Get**A competitive salary of £64,000 - £70,000pa dependent on experience and capabilityAs well as your base salary, NESO's core benefits are the essential perks and advantages that form part of your employee package. - You will receive a bonus based on company performance- 26 days annual leave as standard - A competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. - Annual Enrollment to NESO Savings Plan, when you save between £20- £500 a month from your take-home pay, we will pay a 50% matching contribution.
