Job summary

Leonardo UK is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to lead design, integration and delivery of secure platforms for critical defence and public-sector programmes. The role requires hands-on technical leadership, verification across multiple environments, and mentoring of engineers.

Regular site attendance at Bristol, Yeovil, and other secure locations is expected, with some flexible working possible where security permits.

Qualifications

• Windows Server and Linux platform engineering.
• VMware Cloud Foundation experience.
• Networking concepts and security basics.
• Delivery in regulated or secure environments.
• Automation with scripting and IaC tools.
• Lifecycle management of infrastructure.
• Security controls and accreditation knowledge.
• Systems engineering lifecycle experience.
• Design work including high/low level designs.
• Delivery ownership including planning and risk.

Responsibilities

• Act as a technical authority across platform domains.
• Lead design, integration and implementation of secure platforms.
• Maintain hands-on involvement to support delivery.
• Translate complex requirements into platform designs.
• Develop and assure high-level/low-level designs.
• Own technical delivery, planning, risk management and reporting.
• Coordinate technical direction to multidisciplinary teams.
• Mentor and develop engineers across disciplines.
• Engage stakeholders and justify engineering decisions.
• Drive automation and reusable patterns.
