Job summary

Sussex Police is seeking an experienced administrator to provide high-quality, proactive support to Heads of Department and the Senior Management Team within the Joint Transport Service, Finance and Regional Services, and Estates & Facilities. Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, proactive and responsive administrative and secretarial support to Heads of Department and Senior Management Team.
  • Support a diverse range of services, including Joint Transport Service, Finance and Regional Services, and Estates & Facilities.
  • Line management and development of the team’s Secretary to ensure effective administrative service.
  • May require travel to various locations in Sussex and Surrey as part of the role.

Salary Grade Range - £28,914 - £30,897
Working Hours - 37.0 Hours per Week

The starting salary for this role will usually be at the bottom of the salary range and will be pro-rata if the working hours are less than full time.

The Role & Key Responsibilities

From your first day with us you will be part of a policing family making a real difference.

It is our mission to identify and protect vulnerable people, prevent and respond to harm and keep people safe.

Working as part of a small secretarial team, you will provide high-quality, proactive and responsive administrative and secretarial support to the Heads of Department and Senior Management Team across Commercial and Financial Services.

The role supports a diverse range of services, including the Joint Transport Service, Finance and Regional Services, and Estates & Facilities.

In addition, you will be responsible for the line management and development of the team's Secretary, helping to ensure the delivery of an effective and professional administrative service.

Skills & Experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages for all audiences.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, minute taking, inbox and diary management experience.
  • Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and deliver to demanding deadlines.
  • Discretion and integrity when handling sensitive or confidential matters.
  • A proactive approach, with the confidence to challenge appropriately, identify solutions and drive continuous improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, managing interaction with a wide variety of contacts at all levels and ranks.
  • Resilience, adaptability and composure under pressure and maintaining professionalism in a fast-moving environment.
  • There may be a requirement to travel to various locations in Sussex and Surrey, therefore a full driving licence and willingness to travel within the Counties is essential.

The role may include supporting collaborated teams, and therefore support may be required for Surrey colleagues within those collaborated teams.
