Job summary

Semble is seeking a Senior SDET to lead the evolution of our test automation capability. You will champion AI-assisted, agentic quality workflows, build maintainable Playwright-based tests, and shape test strategy across the team.

You will collaborate with engineers to streamline CI, establish quality gates, and reduce flaky tests while ensuring coverage aligns with critical user journeys. Remote UK options with occasional travel to London.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience as SDET or Test Automation Engineer.
• Experience designing and evolving automation frameworks that are reliable, maintainable, and easy for engineers to adopt.
• Hands-on experience building AI-augmented or agentic quality workflows, not only using tools to generate test code.
• Strong commercial experience with TypeScript-based automation frameworks; Playwright experience desirable.
• Experience with test coverage strategy and applying the testing pyramid to reduce unnecessary E2E testing.
• Exposure to DevOps tools and cloud infrastructure (Jenkins, Bitbucket, Datadog, AWS).

Responsibilities

• Lead the evolution of Semble’s test automation capability.
• Design safe, maintainable agent workflows with clear responsibilities and controls.
• Establish foundations for the QA system including a stable Playwright framework and CI integration.
• Set up quality gates in CI and PR workflows with coverage validation and actionable failure reports.
• Rationalise the E2E suite by classifying tests by unit, API, or integration level.
• Build a cross-layer coverage map and risk-based defect view.
• Expand test coverage and surface quality gaps earlier in development.
• Conduct PoCs for non-functional testing including performance, accessibility, security, and reliability.
• Coach engineers and SDETs on testing strategies and Playwright usage.
