Job summary

BioTalent seeks a Senior Scientist, Assay Development (Science Lead) to own assay development and strategy, leading design, optimization, validation for a next-generation diagnostic platform. On-site in Stevenage with plans to relocate to London by year-end.

You will collaborate with engineers, regulatory experts and external partners, translating lab assays into practical point-of-care formats and building a high-performing scientific team in a fast-growing startup.

Qualifications

• PhD in Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biomedical Science, Bioengineering or related field.
• Industry experience in assay development, diagnostics or IVD product development.
• Hands-on expertise in immunoassay development, ELISA-based systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and optimisation of quantitative immunoassays.
• Drive assay performance across sensitivity, specificity, reproducibility and stability.
• Design and execute analytical validation studies.
• Translate assays into point-of-care formats.
• Establish scientific best practices for experimental design, data quality and statistical analysis.
• Generate documentation aligned with regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with engineering, clinical and regulatory teams.
• Mentor a growing scientific team.
