Our client, a leading consultancy in the energy sector, is seeking a Senior Safety Engineer to join its high-performing Technical/Process Safety team. Based ideally in Glasgow or Edinburgh (with flexibility for other UK locations), this role offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful projects across high-hazard industries including Oil & Gas, Low Carbon, and Renewables, supporting the energy transition.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Engineering & Technical Delivery
- Lead and support the delivery of safety engineering projects with a focus on technical excellence and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct safety assessments including consequence analysis, Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), Formal Safety Assessments, and Safety Case/COMAH compliance.
- Develop, author, and review high-quality technical reports and safety documentation.
- Ensure all safety engineering activities align with applicable legislation and industry standards.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and technically strong team environment.
- Support knowledge sharing and continuous professional development within the team.
- Contribute to the development of internal safety engineering capabilities and best practices.
Project Management & Commercial Support
- Prepare proposals, cost estimates, and scopes of work for new projects.
- Manage project delivery to ensure alignment with agreed scope, budget, and schedule.
- Identify and pursue business development opportunities in collaboration with senior leadership.
Client Engagement & Stakeholder Communication
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through direct engagement and trusted advisory support.
- Present complex safety engineering concepts clearly to clients and stakeholders.
- Serve as a key technical liaison across multidisciplinary teams and client interfaces.
Skills, Experience & Education
- Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status with a recognized professional institution.
- Proven experience in Process/Technical Safety within the energy or high-hazard sectors.
- Strong background in risk and safety management, including QRA and consequence analysis (e.g., PHAST).
- Familiarity with UK safety legislation and standards (e.g., COMAH, Safety Case Regulations).
- Demonstrated ability to produce and review high-quality technical documentation.
- Experience supporting energy transition projects or renewables.
- Involvement in successful bids and proposals.
- Commercial awareness and ability to support business growth initiatives.
