About SZC Project Controls

SZC Project Controls will serve as a centre of excellence, managing and strategically using delivery performance management information. Our team enables the successful delivery of SZC Project through proactive Project Controls that drive forward-looking solutions to continuously improve performance. As the Senior Risk Manager, you will work within the Project Management Office (PMO) and the Delivery Programmes.

Role Overview

The post holder will support the functional ownership for all PMO risk processes across SZC, alongside the Head of Risk. This involves supporting the deployment and continuous improvement of all PMO risk process elements, ensuring operations within SZC governance structures and delivery models. They will ensure risk activities are carried out efficiently, adhering to established calendars and deadlines, and will proactively support digital transformation initiatives.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in large-scale project environments, understanding effective risk management across multiple settings. Experience with major programmes and projects will enable them to oversee outputs produced by senior risk managers. They should have a track record of working with multidisciplinary teams and senior leadership, managing multiple risk activities, prioritising tasks, and deputising for the Head of Risk.

Principal Accountabilities
  1. Support and deputise for functional Project Controls Risk Leads within the PMO, also leading risk management within a SZC capital delivery programme.
  2. Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining Integrated Project Controls (Risk) processes.
  3. Participate in key project meetings, such as Executive Risk Review meetings and weekly controls meetings.
  4. Help establish and maintain project controls arrangements, systems, tools, and work instructions.
  5. Support risk activities planning and coordination, including EAC updates, ERR preparation, and QRA development.
  6. Contribute to progress reporting, risk dashboards, forecast updates, and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  7. Ensure effective assurance processes are in place for the delivery programme.
  8. Promote risk management excellence within the construction industry through knowledge sharing and sector presentations.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
Essential Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong leadership, motivation, delegation, and team management skills, with the ability to lead a small team (~5 people).
  • Excellent engagement skills to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Proven facilitation skills for complex workshops at all levels.
  • Technical expertise in delivering large QRAs, enterprise risk management, and project controls.
  • Deep understanding of project and construction processes, risk exposure, and mitigation strategies.
Desirable Skills & Qualifications
  • Project management and broader project controls experience.
  • Experience working with independent assurance teams and building confidence across assurance professionals.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Relevant sector experience, including client, contractor, consultancy, or government roles.
  • Major project or corporate sector experience.
  • Risk management or technical qualifications relevant to capital-intensive sectors.
