Job summary

Velindre University NHS Trust is recruiting a Senior Review Radiographer to lead radiographer‑led review clinics, assess and manage treatment side effects, and support patients and carers throughout the cancer journey, prescribing medicines where appropriate.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will deliver expert advice, contribute to specialist radiotherapy services and develop colleagues through training and supervision across Cardiff and South Wales.

Qualifications

• BSc (Hons) in Radiography or Diploma of College of Radiographers DCR(T) or PGDip in Radiotherapy.
• On-treatment review qualification or working towards.
• Supplementary/Independent prescriber or willing to work towards the qualification.
• Advanced communication skills.
• Counselling skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead radiographer-led review clinics, assess and manage treatment side effects, and advise patients and carers on side effects; prescribe medications where appropriate.
• Lead information and support for radiotherapy patients and carers with a holistic approach.
• Be part of the multidisciplinary team in total care of patients undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy, including attendance at MDT meetings.
• Train and supervise junior radiographers, rotational staff, support staff and students.
• Provide a safe, accurate, efficient and caring treatment service and act as a resource to the team.

Job description

Join our expert Radiotherapy Team as a Senior Review Radiographer. You will lead radiographer-led review clinics, managing treatment side effects, supporting patients and carers throughout their cancer journey, and prescribing medications where appropriate.

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the delivery of specialist radiotherapy services, provide expert advice and support, and play a key role in developing colleagues through training and supervision.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated radiographer who is passionate about delivering outstanding patient-centred cancer care.

Main duties of the job

To organise and lead on radiographer led review clinics, including assessing and managing treatment side effects, and advising patients and carers on how to manage these side effects. To include prescribing medications where appropriate utilising the current prescribing guidelines.

To lead on information and support for radiotherapy patients and carers, providing a holistic approach to the emotional, practical, social and information needs, utilising a variety of communication media.

To be part of the multidisciplinary team involved in the total care of patients undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment and highly specialist treatments e.g. SRS and SBRT

Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings and travel to other hospitals as appropriate.

To assist in organising and planning the workload in review clinic and information and support service.

To take responsibility for training and supervising more junior review radiographers, rotational radiographers, support staff and students.

To work with more senior staff to provide a safe, accurate, efficient and caring treatment service.

To act as a resource within the Trust providing expert knowledge to support the multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

Experience

• Experience of working with wide range of radiotherapy techniques e.g IMRT, SABR
• Experience of reviewing radiotherapy patients
• Ability to assess radiotherapy patients in a holistic way
• Experience of working with Patient Specific directions or equivalent
• Experience of using tool to assess holistic needs e.g distress thermometer
• A thorough and detailed knowledge of principles and concepts underpinning a wide range or radiotherapy techniques
• Sound practical ability
• Knowledge and understanding of current oncology issues
• Knowledge of radiotherapy side effects
• Knowledge of drugs to treat radiotherapy side effects
• Knowledge of Research and Development and audit
