Job summary

Velindre University NHS Trust is seeking an experienced oncology nurse to lead clinical and operational care for patients receiving a range of treatments. You will assess needs, plan and implement care, supervise junior staff and contribute to clinical governance.

The post requires a 1st level Registered General Nurse with Oncology experience and the ability to work flexibly across settings, including potential coverage in chemotherapy or inpatient areas. Welsh language skills are desirable.

Qualifications

• This role requires RGN with post graduate Oncology knowledge and CPD in cancer care.
• CPD in change management and leadership is advantageous.
• Strong IT, numeracy and literacy, with knowledge of cancer care.

Responsibilities

• Lead and participate in clinical and operational procedures with patients and families.
• Develop and direct care plans for in-patient, daycare and respite care.
• Coordinate with community services and other agencies.

Job description

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, participating and contributing to the wider clinical governance agenda including service developments and flexible working to meet the needs of patients. Managing a case load of patients receiving a range of Oncology treatments and management of the associated complications.There is also a requirement to supervise junior staff and teach qualified and unqualified staff including basic and post basic students.Please be aware that you may be required to cover in Chemotherapy Service or Inpatients.

Main duties of the job

To lead and be directly involved with clinical and operational procedures with patients, carers and relatives. To undertake assessments and direct care plans for patients, relatives and carers, with the team for those needing in-patient care, daycare and respite support. To work closely with patients and their families. To plan with the patient a leave or discharge plan that is followed through for each individual involving both nurses, community servicesand other agencies where appropriate. Demonstrate skills and knowledge to the team to promote standards of care, innovative practice and active participation in clinicalsupervision.

Qualifications and Knowledge

• 1st level Registered General Nurse Post Graduation Degree in Oncology or equivalent experience. Demonstrate high level of knowledge of critical care management required for role. Demonstrate knowledge of IT e.g. WPAS, Power-point. High level of numeracy and literacy Knowledge of cancer and its effects Understanding of research methodologies Knowledge of guiding oncology policy for practice.
• PGCE or Cert Ed Cert/Diploma Management MSc or a willingness to obtain one Ability to undertake IT training WPAS, ECDL. A working knowledge of research Applied knowledge of cancer care

Experience

• Oncology experience Evidence of continuing professional development.
