Job summary

Velindre University NHS Trust is seeking a Senior Review Radiographer to lead radiographer-led review clinics, assess treatment side effects, and provide holistic information and support to patients and carers across the cancer journey.

The role involves working within a multidisciplinary team, potential travel to partner sites, and supervision of junior staff. Welsh language skills are desirable but not essential.

Qualifications

• BSc (Hons) T or DCR(T) or Post Graduate Diploma in Radiotherapy.
• Radiotherapy on-treatment review qualification or working towards.
• Supplementary/Independent prescriber or willing to work towards.
• Advanced communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Organise and lead radiographer-led review clinics and manage side effects.
• Provide information and holistic support to radiotherapy patients and carers.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on patient care (e.g., SRS/SBRT).
• Attend MDT meetings and may travel to other hospitals as needed.
• Plan workload in review clinics and information services.
• Train and supervise junior radiographers, rotational staff and students.
• Support senior staff to deliver a safe, efficient treatment service.
• Act as a knowledge resource for the multidisciplinary team.

Salary: £50,129 to £57,365 a year per annum pro rata

Job Responsibilities

• To organise and lead on radiographer‑led review clinics, including assessing and managing treatment side effects, and advising patients and carers on how to manage these side effects. To include prescribing medications where appropriate utilising the current prescribing guidelines.
• To lead on information and support for radiotherapy patients and carers, providing a holistic approach to the emotional, practical, social and information needs, utilising a variety of communication media.
• To be part of the multidisciplinary team involved in the total care of patients undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment and highly specialist treatments e.g. SRS and SBRT.
• Attendance at multidisciplinary team meetings and travel to other hospitals as appropriate.
• To assist in organising and planning the workload in review clinic and information and support service.
• To take responsibility for training and supervising more junior review radiographers, rotational radiographers, support staff and students.
• To work with more senior staff to provide a safe, accurate, efficient and caring treatment service.
• To act as a resource within the Trust providing expert knowledge to support the multidisciplinary team.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

• Radiotherapy patients On‑treatment review qualification or working towards

Experience

• Experience of working with wide range of radiotherapy techniques e.g IMRT, SABR
• Experience of reviewing radiotherapy patients
• Ability to assess radiotherapy patients in a holistic way
• Experience of working with Patient Specific directions or equivalent
• Experience of using tool to assess holistic needs e.g distress thermometer
• A thorough and detailed knowledge of principles and concepts underpinning a wide range or radiotherapy techniques
• Sound practical ability
• Knowledge and understanding of current oncology issues
• Knowledge of radiotherapy side effects
• Knowledge of drugs to treat radiotherapy side effects
• Knowledge of Research and Development and audit
• Knowledge of COSHH and Health and Safety Regulations
• Knowledge of issues in relation to radiographer prescribing
