Job summary

Birmingham Children’s Trust Limited seeks an experienced Senior Residential Child Care Officer to support children with learning disabilities, autism, and complex health needs. You will develop personalised care plans, use diverse communication methods, and promote independence in a safe, structured environment.

You will work with families, schools, social workers and professionals to ensure consistent, high-quality care and development.

Qualifications

• Ability to supervise and manage groups of disabled children with emotional/behavioural needs.
• Ability to assess risk and safeguard children.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Excellent communication, including use of communication aids.
• Compassionate, patient approach with high-quality care.
• Ability to work with co-workers and external professionals.
• Relevant childcare qualifications are desirable.
• Flexibility to work on-call and shifts, including weekends/bank holidays.

Responsibilities

• Supervise groups of children in a residential setting to ensure safety and engagement.
• Develop and implement personalised care plans reflecting individual needs and goals.
• Support children with daily living skills, meals, hygiene, and self-care.
• Promote independence through activities tailored to abilities and interests.
• Collaborate with families, schools, social workers and other professionals.
• Monitor and adjust risk management and safeguarding activities.
