Job summary

Birmingham Children’s Trust Limited is seeking Senior Child Care Officers for Edgewood Road in Kings Norton, Birmingham. You will work in a 24hr residential setting, developing care plans and supporting children with diverse needs.

The role requires experience with learning disabilities, autism, complex health conditions and challenging behaviour, strong organisation and outstanding communication. Hybrid/office-based hours with full onboarding and ongoing training are provided.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children with learning disabilities, autism, complex health conditions, and challenging behaviour.
• Strong organisation and time management skills.
• Excellent communication skills, with experience using communication aids.
• Compassionate, patient approach focused on high‑quality care.
• Ability to collaborate with colleagues, professionals and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive care plans tailored to each child's unique needs and preferences.
• Foster a safe, nurturing environment where children feel valued and empowered.
• Utilise communication aids to help children express wishes and feelings.
• Collaborate with parents, schools, social workers, and other professionals for progress.
• Encourage independence in daily tasks such as preparing food, hygiene and self-care.
• Maintain regular communication with school staff to support continuity and development.
• Organise activities tailored to individual needs.
