Dorothy House Hospice Care in Winsley, Wiltshire, invites a Senior Researcher to lead innovative research in supportive and palliative care, collaborating with academic partners to shape care practice, education and policy. The role involves developing grant proposals, delivering projects from inception to dissemination, supervising staff, and building partnerships across NHS, academia and charities.

Hybrid working is agreed; 30 hours over four days, with a salary of £52,000–£62,000 p.a.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral qualification or equivalent senior-level research experience.
  • Experience in designing, conducting and delivering research in palliative care.
  • Track record in securing research funding and grant submissions.
  • Dissemination of research via peer-reviewed outputs, conferences or reports.
  • Experience leading complex research projects with governance and budgets.
  • Excellent collaboration across healthcare, academic and public sectors.

Salary:£52,000 – £62,000per annum (pro rata) + Generous holidays, Pension

Contract Type: Permanent

SENIOR RESEARCHER IN SUPPORTIVE AND PALLIATIVE CARE | £52,000 - £62,000 per annum (pro rata)

Part Time - 30 hours over 4 days a week (Monday to Friday).

Location: Winsley, Wiltshire (Hybrid working agreed)

This is a unique opportunity to join Dorothy House Hospice Care's Education and Research team and play a leading role in shaping the future of supportive and palliative care research. Working in collaboration with the University of the West of England, you'll help develop, secure, deliver and disseminate research that has a meaningful impact on patients, families, clinical practice, education and policy.

As our Senior Researcher in Supportive and Palliative Care, you'll lead innovative research projects, develop competitive grant funding applications, build partnerships with academic institutions and healthcare organisations, and contribute to research that influences care locally, nationally and internationally.

WHAT WILL THE ROLE INVOLVE?

  • Developing research questions and leading collaborative grant funding applications with clinical, academic and patient partners
  • Leading and delivering high-quality supportive, palliative and end of life care research projects from inception through to dissemination
  • Publishing and presenting research findings to regional, national and international audiences
  • Measuring and demonstrating the impact of research on clinical practice, education and healthcare policy
  • Managing research projects, budgets, governance requirements and delivery timelines
  • Building strong partnerships with universities, research networks, healthcare providers and external stakeholders
  • Supporting the development of research capacity across Dorothy House through teaching, supervision and mentoring activities
  • Line managing research staff employed on externally funded research grants
  • Contributing to the strategic development of research and innovation across Dorothy House and partner organisations

ABOUT YOU

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior researcher who is passionate about evidence-based healthcare, collaborative research, knowledge mobilisation and improving outcomes for people approaching the end of life.

Essential requirements:

  • Doctoral qualification (PhD or Professional Doctorate) in health and social care, psychology, public health or a related discipline, or equivalent senior-level research experience
  • Demonstrable experience designing, conducting and delivering research within supportive, palliative or end of life care settings
  • Experience developing successful research funding applications and contributing to, or leading, grant submissions
  • Track record of disseminating research through peer-reviewed publications, conferences or formal reports
  • Experience leading complex research projects, including governance, budget management and delivery of outcomes
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with the ability to collaborate across healthcare, academic and public sectors
  • Knowledge of research governance, ethics and Good Clinical Practice within health or social care research

Desirable requirements:

  • Experience conducting research within a hospice or community palliative care setting
  • Experience of line management, supervision, mentoring or developing staff and students
  • Experience working with Higher Education Institutions, NIHR infrastructure or research networks
  • Professional registration with a relevant professional body
