Job description

An excellent opportunity has arisen in our School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering for a Senior Research Officer to work on the Leverhulme Trust-funded project 'Predictive Discovery and Retrieval of 360-degree Video in Named Data Networks'.

The post's specific focus is to lead on research topics related to the communication of AR/VR/XR video content over the future Internet. The Senior Research Officer will work on the intersection of AR/VR/XR video communication, the future Internet architectures, and machine learning for networking. The main objective will be to propose novel machine learning-enabled networking methods for AR/VR/XR video content that will permit sub-20 ms delivery and enable communication of high-quality interactive content.

Department

The School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE) is a large and vibrant department in the Faculty of Science and Health of the University of Essex. In the recent Research Excellence Framework exercise (REF2021), it was ranked 6th in the UK regarding research power and 9th for research impact in computer science. Duties of the Role

Duties will include developing, managing and updating the code developed for the Leverhulme Trust-funded project 'Predictive Discovery and Retrieval of 360-degree Video in Named Data Networks' at the University of Essex.

This post is fixed-term until 31 August 2028.

Skills and qualifications required

At Senior Research Officer level, a PhD (or close to completion) in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent level of experience is required. Experience and knowledge are required in machine learning for networking and Future Internet architectures, while knowledge of multimedia coding standards is highly desirable. A substantial record of publications in relevant international journals and conferences is essential. A track record in proposal writing is highly desirable. Strong written and verbal communication skills are also essential for the post. For more details, please see the attached job pack.
