Dow Jones is seeking a Senior Research Analyst II to join the Acrylates and Oxo Alcohol Market Advisory Services team. You will contribute to monthly data gathering, review and analysis for reports used by global chemical producers, traders, and procurement managers, with a focus on the EMEA region.

You will support price discovery, forecasting, and market reports, while updating global supply/demand balances and plant capacities.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated organized ability to research through established contacts with diverse market participant channels.
• Ideal candidate will have proficiency in Microsoft Office Professional suite, with emphasis on Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
• Exceptional written and spoken English is required for publishing reports for a global audience.

Responsibilities

• Price Discovery & Reporting: Assess monthly spot and contract prices for Acrylate Monomers, MMA, SAP, Oxo-Alcohols, and Plasticizers.
• Price Forecasting: Analyze how upstream costs affect multi-year price forecasts for Acrylates, MMA, SAP and Oxo Alcohols.
• Report Creation: Assist in writing monthly Market Advisory reports and data for longer-term World Analysis forecasts through 2060.
• Supply/Demand Modeling: Maintain/update Global Supply/Demand Balances for the EMEA region; update plant capacities and expansions.
• Trade Flow Analysis: Track arbitrage opportunities and global supply-demand status with ASAP and GOAP teams.
• Client Support: Support EMEA Principal Analyst and gradually respond to market queries.

Job description

As a Senior Research Analyst II within the Acrylates and Oxo Alcohol Market Advisory Services team, you will contribute to the monthly data gathering, review and analysis for reports used by global chemical producers, traders, and procurement managers. You will focus on the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region, specifically tracking trends and pricing within the Acrylate Monomers, MMA, Oxo Alcohols, and Plasticizers value chains.

You Will

• Price Discovery & Reporting: Support in assessing monthly spot and contract prices for Acrylate Monomers (2-EHA, BA, EA and MA), Methyl Methacrylate (MMA), Superabsorbent Polymers (SAP), Oxo-Alcohols (2-EH, n-Butanol, iso-Butanol), and various Plasticizers.

• Price Forecasting: Analyze and interpret how changes in upstream energy and feedstock costs (e.g., Propylene, Natural Gas) will interact with market forces to create multi-year, monthly price forecasts for Acrylates, MMA, SAP and Oxo Alcohols.

• Report Creation: Assist in writing and compiling monthly Market Advisory reports andcontributing data for longer-term World Analysis forecasts through 2060. Regularly interfaces with global Market Advisory Services team members to ensure analysis consistency and to be kept abreast of global trends that could affect regional markets.

• Supply/Demand Modeling: Support in maintaining and updating Global Supply/DemandBalances for the EMEA region, as well as updating plant capacities, production rates and future expansions.

• Trade Flow Analysis: Work with the greater global ASAP and GOAP team to keep updated on arbitrage opportunities and global supply-demand status.

• Client Support: Initially support and assist the EMEA Principal Analyst with scheduled calls and meetings to gather market intel, with the near-term expectation the Senior Research Analyst II can soon handle some calls independently. Also eventually moving to the position of being able to independently respond to some unscheduled, incoming market queries.

You Have:

• University degree required. Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Engineering or Chemistry is highly preferred. Alternate degrees may include Finance, Mathematics, Journalism or Business Analytics with a demonstrated interest or minor in a science-related field. Any real-world chemical industry experience is preferred.

• Demonstrated organized ability to research through established contacts with diverse market participant channels in telephone, e-mail and face-to-face interfaces; ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Ideal candidate will have proficiency in Microsoft Office Professional suite, with emphasis on Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Candidate will be able to manage large datasets and interpret formulas to ensure accurate maintenance of customer-facing data. Candidate will also be able to extrapolate internal data to help create customer-facing charts, graphs and presentations.

• Exceptional written and spoken English is required for publishing reports for a global audience.

• Proficiency in other languages is a plus. Preference given to those with knowledge of Spanish, German, French or Arabic.

• The ideal candidate will be outgoing and understand this role requires a significant number of monthly phone calls, Zoom calls and meetings. Candidate must have an engaging personality and willingness to engage in cultivating both existing and new client-facing relationships.
