SCOR, a leading global reinsurer, seeks a Senior Research Analyst/Actuary for Longevity Research in London. You will own mortality assumptions, model demographics, and support global business with innovative pricing and products.

You will interact with SCOR colleagues, clients, and external experts to advance research quality and commercial impact. You will lead smaller projects, extract key insights from papers, and communicate results to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Nearly qualified/qualified actuary or several years of experience in actuarial/statistical teams.
  • Few years in demographic assumptions or pricing teams (longevity or protection).
  • Degree level or equivalent with strong academic record.
  • Solid ability to extract key information from demographic research papers.
  • Excellent analytical and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver and maintain pricing bases and tools for profitable business.
  • Apply research methods in a commercial context with 80/20 prioritisation.
  • Identify data sources from journals and statistical datasets.
  • Suggest innovations for bases and plan Longevity Team research activities.
  • Produce concise technical documentation and present to stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on longevity research developments and present learnings.
  • Ensure pricing bases align with SCOR guidelines.

Senior Research Analyst/Actuary, Longevity Research

Job Description

As a key member of the Longevity Research Team, you will be owning aspects of the development and maintenance of SCOR’s mortality and demographic assumptions , enhancing SCOR’s ability to write profitable new business. The team has global responsibility for Longevity business so you will have the opportunity to work on business originating from outside the UK.

Your work could involve updating mortality trends for multiple countries to support new business, the use of machine learning techniques to model mortality rates, setting assumptions for medically underwritten annuities, designing innovative new products for entry into global markets, and the documentation and presentation of your work to senior stakeholders.

You will establish strong working relationships with SCOR colleagues both within and outside the Longevity Team, clients and industry contacts.

Responsibilities

Research

Deliver and maintain pricing bases and tools which enable SCOR to write profitable new business in existing territories, and to expand its global product offering in new territories.

Demonstrate a clear understanding of how to apply research methods in a commercial context, utilising the 80/20 rule to deliver work quickly.

Identify and analyse suitable internal and external data sources for research projects, such as academic research papers and statistical datasets , obtaining maximum v alue from available information.

Contribute ideas for innovation of bases and help plan the research activities of the Longevity Team.

Produce concise and clear technical documentation and present work to senior stakeholders.

Keep abreast of major developments in the l ongevity research field and the global l ongevity market. Attend external seminars and webinars where relevant, and present learnings back to the wider longevity team.

Ensure pricing bases conform with SCOR pricing guidelines and that key pricing issues/risks are highlighted early.

Relationships

Demonstrate strong collaboration skills, utilising tools such as brainstorming sessions and the team meeting to understand different approaches to reach the end goal.

Collaborate with the Longevity Pricing team, ensuring research bases are implemented appropriately.

Develop a strong network of relationships with SCOR colleagues outside the Longevity Team, particularly the Biometric Team in Paris.

Promote the Longevity Research T eam’s technical expertise, through knowledge shares with the wider Longevity Team and where appropriate across the SCOR Life Team.

Qualifications

Keen interest in longevity research.

Experience of working both within a team and as a self-motivated individual.

Ability to lead on smaller research projects with minimal oversight, proactively seeking help from experienced colleagues where required.

Ability to quickly extract key information from demographic research papers.

Proven ability to deliver and meet deadlines.

Prior experience of demographic research in the insurance/reinsurance sector, either in a longevity or protection setting.

R programming experience.

Required Education
