Newsquest Cambridgeshire is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Reporter to join our vibrant team. Working across our five local titles — The Hunts Post, the Ely Standard, Wisbech Standard, Cambs Times, and Peterborough Matters — this is an exciting opportunity to be part of a hardworking and committed group of journalists passionate about supporting our community and delivering stories that matter to our readers.

Key Responsibilities

1. Story Generation: Develop and pitch original story ideas that resonate with our readers and reflect the diverse interests of the Cambridgeshire communities.
2. Reporting: Conduct research, interviews, and investigations to produce accurate, balanced, and compelling news stories.
3. Writing: Write clear, concise, and engaging articles for print and digital platforms, adhering to editorial standards and deadlines.
4. Multimedia Content: Use multimedia skills to create and edit video content, enhancing storytelling for our audience.
5. Community Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with local contacts, sources, and community leaders to stay informed about important issues and events.
6. Collaboration: Work closely with editors, photographers, and other reporters to ensure comprehensive news coverage.
7. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, and continually improve journalism skills and knowledge.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• NCTJ diploma or equivalent
• Excellent writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail
• Knowledge of video production is advantageous
• Understanding of journalistic principles and practices
• Knowledge of relevant media law and adherence to the Editors’ Code of Conduct
• Creativity and willingness to experiment with new approaches and techniques
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and manage multiple priorities
