Job summary

Bupa Cromwell Hospital in London is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (Adult and/or Children's) to join the operating theatre recovery team. You will provide skilled clinical and technical assistance, lead by example, and participate in the assessment of patient care needs while maintaining care standards.

You will support colleagues to deliver safe, high quality patient care, participate in induction for new staff, and remain flexible for on‑call and weekend duties within an acute

Qualifications

• NMC Registered Nurse (Adult and/or Children) with a minimum of 2 years' experience.
• Alternative: HCPC registered with a Diploma or Degree in Health Care Studies / ODP Level 3 NVQ / ODA 752.
• Experience of working within an acute hospital setting.
• Flexibility to take part in on‑call rotas and rostered weekend duties.
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead by example and support the team to deliver safe, high quality patient care.
• Participate as part of the post anaesthetic care unit (recovery) team.
• Ensure asepsis, proper dress and decontamination procedures are followed.
• Prepare patients for clinical and operative procedures and provide immediate post‑operative care.
• Take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the team leader and ensure safety.
• Complete data collection related to theatre activity and report incidents as required.

Job description

To be responsible for providing skilled clinical and technical assistance as a member of the operating theatre team and to participate in the assessment of patient care needs and implement and maintain agreed standards of care.

What you'll do:

• To have good leadership qualities, good communication skills and to lead by example.

• To support individual and team to deliver safe, high quality and effective patient care that is responsive to the needs of our patient.

• To participate as a post anaesthetic care unit (recovery) nurse, providing care to the immediate post-operative patients.

• Help to control cross infection by observing departmental policy regarding dress, the maintenance of a clean working environment, decontamination and sterilisation procedures and asepsis.

• Participate in induction and orientation programmes for new staff to ensure a welcoming environment.

• Assist the team leaders in the Personal Development Plans of junior staff.

• Prepare patients for clinical/ operative procedures, both in anaesthetics and surgery.

• Provide immediate post-operative care.

• Provide initial emergency care as required.

• Take charge of the clinical area in the absence of the team leader ensuring patient, visitors and staff safety.

• Ensure all equipment is checked prior to use and any faults reported to the nurse in charge of the recovery.

• Participate fully as a team member, sharing knowledge and information and supporting colleagues, to promote a cohesive team and the achievement of team objectives.

• Adhere to the procedures for the use of supplies, ordering requirements for the Department as directed by line manager.

• Ensure the accurate collection of data in relation to theatre activity.

• To ensure confidentiality at all times, only releasing confidential information obtained during the course of employment to those acting in an official capacity in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act and its amendments.

• Maintain the safe custody, handling of drugs in accordance with hospital policy.

• To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service.

• Participate in the robust reporting of incidents and comply with any ensuing investigations.

Bupa Cromwell Hospital - SW5 0TU (5 mins walk from Earls Court underground or 7 mins walk from Gloucester Road underground.) Salary: Competitive plus fantastic benefits Full‑time 37.5 hours a week Monday to Saturday plus additional shift enhancements for weekend working - various shift patterns available.
