Job summary

Randstad Construction and Property seeks a Lead Signalling Design Engineer for an immediate start on a 6‑month contract in Birmingham. You will direct the activities of the design team to ensure safe, on‑time implementation of signalling projects to customer specifications and deadlines, and you will check that output meets required standards.

The role requires experience across Signalling Systems Engineering, preparation and checking of design plans, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
  • IRSE Signalling Principles Designer licence and Signalling Design Verifier Licence.
  • Proven ability to lead a design team and communicate effectively.
  • Experience in preparation and checking of signalling design plans and working details.
  • Competent in scheme plans, LAP, specifications, SSI wiring and fringe designs.

Responsibilities

  • Directing the preparation of technical details, signalling plans, estimates and working drawings to meet timescales and budgets.
  • Carrying out independent checking of signalling systems as required.
  • Ensuring technical and safety standards are maintained across design work.
  • Providing guidance to the design engineers and project team on signal design aspects.
  • Forecasting manpower requirements for design work to support resource allocation.
