Job summary

Velindre University NHS Trust in Velindre Hospital, Cardiff, seeks a Specialist Clinical Scientist (Medical Physics Expert) to ensure safe radiotherapy delivery. You will act as MPE across treatment planning, dosimetry, imaging physics, and computing, leading new technology implementation and providing expert advice to multidisciplinary teams.

Applicants with MPE certification or nearing it are welcome to apply; 75% Annex 21 appointments may be considered.

Qualifications

• First degree in physics or related discipline.
• MSc in medical physics.
• Registration as Clinical Scientist with the HCPCRPA2000 certificate of competence to act as an MPE.

Responsibilities

• Provide highly complex scientific and technical advice on imaging, treatment planning and dosimetric issues to radiotherapy consultants and colleagues.
• Lead the implementation and commissioning of new technologies and techniques in radiotherapy.
• Teach Radiotherapy Physics principles to all disciplines in classroom and workplace settings.
• Ensure operators of relevant radiotherapy equipment have received training and achieved competency per IR(ME)R 2017.
