Job summary

ProTech Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced R&D Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team in Hertford, driving next-generation electronic lighting control systems from concept to volume production.

You will guide hardware, firmware, and wireless/wired interfaces, enforce DfM/DFx principles, and ensure EMC, safety, RoHS compliance while collaborating across functions to deliver successful NPI initiatives.

Qualifications

At least 5 years of R&D management/leadership experience in electronic product development.
Strong background in analogue/digital electronics, embedded microcontrollers, and comms protocols (DALI, Bluetooth, Zigbee, DMX, Ethernet).
Full lifecycle delivery: taking complex electronic products from concept to full production.
Solid understanding of EMC, Safety, RoHS and hands-on use of engineering tools like Altium and embedded IDEs.

Responsibilities

Define and execute the R&D roadmap; lead, mentor and resource internal engineering teams and sub-contractors.
Oversee hardware, embedded firmware and wireless/wired communication design and development.
Ensure compliance testing and regulatory alignment with EMC, safety and RoHS standards.
Collaborate with Sales, Operations and Procurement to drive NPI and translate market needs into specs.
Manage multiple projects with timelines, budgets and quality targets; support R&D tax credit submissions.
