About the Role:

As a Senior R&D Cosmetic Chemist, you’ll play a key role in innovating and developing new formulations while optimising existing products. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the creation of high-performing skincare and cosmetic solutions, ensuring they meet international standards and compliance.

You’ll be instrumental in developing colour cosmetics (BB creams, foundations, concealers, lip products etc) and ensuring seamless scaling from lab prototypes to full-scale production. Collaboration with cross-functional teams—including Compliance, Operations, and Production—will be key as you tackle challenges and drive product development success for our clients.

This newly created role offers a fantastic opportunity for a talented formulator to make a real impact in an innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and optimise commercially viable and scalable formulas for product briefs.
• Expertise in formulating a variety of product types, including powders, liquids, creams, oils, solids, and colour cosmetics.
• Prepare lab samples for client submission and stability/PET testing.
• Conduct research and present innovative product ideas to enhance our product offering / formulation library.
• Review and reformulate existing products for improvements in aesthetics, functionality, and cost.
• Maintain an organized sample retention library.
• Collaborate with QA/QC and Manufacturing teams to resolve issues with out-of-spec products and address client complaints.
• Identify and implement improvements to product development processes, ensuring efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Work closely with internal teams to ensure a smooth handover of new products to manufacturing.
• Maintain good laboratory practices (GLP) and thorough, accurate records of lab data.
• Support various other R&D tasks as needed.

Ideal Skills and Experience:

• Tertiary degree (BSc in Chemistry) with a passion for cosmetic formulation, or a Diploma in Personal Care Formulation/Certificate in Advanced Cosmetic Science (IPCS).
• Minimum 5 years of experience in personal care and cosmetic formulation.
• Ability to operate various lab-scale equipment for different product types.
• Excellent multitasking and project management abilities.
• Strong time management and organisational skills.
• Strong understanding of quality control and natural/organic formulations within personal care and cosmetics.
• A creative thinker with the ability to research, innovate, and apply new ideas to enhance or create products.
• Resourceful, with exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
• Proven ability to deliver stable, efficacious, and high-quality products in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
