Job summary

STFC, part of UKRI, is seeking a Senior Quantum Scientist (AMO) to join the NAQC team within the NQCC. You will contribute to open-source quantum computing platforms, integrating components into scalable quantum computers while maintaining hands-on experimental work in the lab.

The role offers leadership in technical areas, collaboration with internal teams and external partners, and opportunities to publish and present results in peer-reviewed venues.

Qualifications

• Educated to a PhD - level (or equivalent experience) in a physics, engineering, computing or a related discipline.
• Strong technical knowledge of quantum computing and related quantum technologies.
• Experience with neutral atom quantum computing hardware or related quantum tech.
• Hands-on experience developing, operating, integrating, and troubleshooting experimental quantum systems.
• Experience designing, implementing, and automating experiments for system operation and characterisation.
• Characterisation and analysis of neutral atom qubits including fidelity, noise, stability and error mechanisms.

Responsibilities

• System/Sub-System Development: design, develop, assemble and optimise neutral atom quantum computing sub-systems.
• Run experiments to characterise performance and improve qubit fidelity, stability, and scalability.
• Integrate sub-systems into full-stack quantum computing platforms.
