Job summary

STFC is seeking a Senior Quantum Scientist (AMO) to join the NAQC team within the NQCC. You will drive development of open-source quantum computing hardware, integrating components into scalable platforms while mentoring team members and collaborating with academia and industry.

You will conduct hands-on experiments in a laser lab, optimise qubit fidelity and performance, and influence the technical direction of the national quantum computing programme with hands-on engineering and research

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent in physics, engineering, computing or related discipline (S&I).
• Strong experimental or engineering background with hands-on lab work (S).
• Experience designing, implementing and automating experiments and control routines (S&I).
• Experience characterising, analysing and refining quantum system performance (S&I).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise neutral atom quantum computing sub-systems (QPU, lasers, control systems).
• Develop experiments to characterise performance, improve qubit fidelity, stability and scalability.
• Contribute to system-level design, interfaces and performance targets.
