Job description

The opportunity

Expanded Structures are the specialist reinforced concrete basement, sub and superstructure frame construction division of Laing O'Rourke and are currently recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team on a defence project in Pirbright (Surrey).

The project will be a new Army Basic Training facility, delivering the infrastructure required to create a ‘Centre of excellence' for non-infantry Basic Training for the British Army.

What will the Senior Quantity Surveyor role look like?

  1. All Senior Quantity Surveying duties including measurement, valuation and agreement of work sections.
  2. PCSA and main works responsibility.
  3. Preparation and management of interim applications for payment and agreeing certifications.
  4. Draft, manage and settle subcontracts.
  5. Management and reporting of monthly costs.
  6. Drafting and preparation of claims.
  7. Preparation and agreement of final account.
  8. Day to day management of any trainee, assistant quantity surveyor and/or quantity surveyor.
  9. Negotiating with client's representatives, sub-contractors and other consultants to achieve project results whilst maintaining group relationships.
  10. Advising project management on contractual implications of intended courses of action.
  11. Advising on commercial risks within the project or projects.
  12. Preparation and management of monthly contract review reports, weekly Business Plan Review (BPR) information, monthly management accounts information and contractual and commercial input into the Project Business Plan, as required.
  13. Assist with the establishment of the project “budget to build” from the Contract award.
  14. Identify and agree change and implement change control process.
  15. Ensure that contract documents are properly executed prior to project commencement.
  16. Communicating clearly & confidently to a professional standard.
  17. Keep your manager fully advised of any issue/risk which has arisen or might arise, and which could affect the business/project.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  1. Structural design experience.
  2. NEC contract knowledge.
  3. Degree qualified in relevant discipline (Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Management).
  4. A desire to learn the risk and opportunity process both internal and with our client.
  5. A drive to learn and grow to the next grade.
