The opportunity

Expanded Structures, the specialist reinforced concrete basement, sub and superstructure frame construction division of Laing O'Rourke, is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a defence project in Pirbright (Surrey).

The project involves creating new Army Basic Training facilities to serve as a ‘Centre of excellence' for non-infantry Basic Training for the British Army.

Role responsibilities include:

• All Senior Quantity Surveying duties including measurement, valuation, and agreement of work sections.
• PCSA and main works responsibility.
• Preparation and management of interim applications for payment and certifications.
• Drafting, managing, and settling subcontracts.
• Managing and reporting monthly costs.
• Drafting and preparing claims.
• Preparation and agreement of final accounts.
• Managing trainees, assistant QS, and/or QS on a daily basis.
• Negotiating with client representatives, sub-contractors, and other consultants to achieve project results while maintaining relationships.
• Advising project management on contractual implications.
• Advising on commercial risks within the projects.
• Preparing and managing contract review reports, Business Plan Review (BPR) information, monthly management accounts, and contractual inputs into the Project Business Plan.
• Assisting with establishing the project “budget to build” from contract award.
• Identifying and managing change and change control processes.
• Ensuring proper execution of contract documents prior to project start.
• Communicating clearly and confidently to a professional standard.
• Keeping management fully informed of issues or risks affecting the project.

Desired skills & experience:

• Knowledge of NEC contracts.
• Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
• Interest in learning about risk and opportunity processes internally and with clients.
• Drive to learn and progress to the next career level.
